A memorandum of understanding was recently signed between SingHealth and the World Stroke Organization (WSO) that aims to develop an improved programme for stroke care in Southeast Asia.

Through the deal, SingHealth said they will be able to launch clinical service development, research, education, and advocacy initiatives focused on training and sharing best practices with hospitals, thereby improving the number and quality of certified stroke centres in the region.

In Southeast Asia, stroke affects an average of 1,300 people in every 100,000. Access to care is also limited and varies depending on the country.

During the signing ceremony, WSO also presented Singapore General Hospital (SGH) with the WSO Angels Award for its stroke care. SGH is the first hospital in Singapore to receive the recognition.
