1 min read

Korean actors Park Bo-gum and Kim Tae-ri will host the 2024 MAMA awards, with Park hosting the U.S.-based ceremony and Kim the two-day ceremony in Japan. It’s the first year that the awards ceremony will be held in the U.S.

Park, who is best known for his roles in Korean dramas such as Reply 1988, Record of Youth and Encounter, plus Korean films such as Wonderland, Seobok and Coin Locker Girl, will host the awards ceremony at LA’s Hollywood Dolby Theatre on Nov. 21. The k-pop awards ceremony may be a first for the U.S. but it’s Park’s sixth stint as a host.

Artists performing in the U.S. ceremony include multi-Grammy Award winner Anderson .Paak and k-pop girl group Young Posse, Illit, Katseye, J.Y. Park, Riize, and TWS.

Kim, who currently stars in Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born, and previously appeared in the dramas Revanant, Twenty Five Twenty One and Mr. Sunshine, as well as the films Alienoid and Space Sweepers, will host the second day of the two-day event in Japan. It’s her first time hosting the awards. The first day in Japan will be hosted by artists performing that day.

The Japanese installment of the awards ceremony takes place on Nov. 22 and 23 at the Kyocera Dome in Osaka. Performers on Nov. 22 include BoyNextDoor, Enyphen, IVE, izna (a new girl group formed through South Korea’s popular K-pop survival show ‘I-LAND 2), Lee Young-ji, ME:I, Tomorrow X Together, Treasure, and virtual boy group Plave.

(G)I-DLE, aespa, BIBI, G-Dragon, INI, MEOVV, Seventeen and ZeroBaseOne are set to perform on Nov. 23. It will be G-dragon’s first stage performance since 2015. Plave and Lee Young-ji will perform together, while Enhyphen, Tomorrow X Together and ZeroBaseOne are expected to give a rare performance together.

A host of Korean celebrities—including Gong Myoung, Kwak Dong-yeon, Kim Min-ha, Moon Sang-min, Ma Dong-seok, Ahn Jae-Hyeon, Park Seo-jun, Byeon Woo-seok, Seo In-guk, and Lee Jun-ho—have been recruited to serve as presenters during the ceremony in Japan.

The MAMA Awards formerly known as the Mnet Asian Music Awards is a music awards ceremony presented annually by Korean entertainment company CJ ENM. The ceremony was first held in Seoul in 1999 and aired on Mnet. MAMA has been held in various countries outside of South Korea since 2010 and now airs internationally online.

The event will be broadcast on Mnet and livestreamed on Mnet’s YouTube channels, Mnet K-pop and Mnet TV.
